Hello, I have a couple of questions that Im sure you guys can answer.

I did a 1wk course in Yeovil last month, my mate did the same course a few years ago and seems different trainers have different opinions... nothing new or unusual there, but some things were complete opposites i.e.

I was told that you can plaster two co-joining walls or a wall and ceiling together, use a corner trowel, then come back and do the other walls next day or whenever, once dry.
My mate on the other hand was told you never use a corner trowel cos you never plaster two walls that join at the same time, cos of shrinkage... Not so much a differing style as a complete *kin contradiction, whats right?

Also:
1 - I know this is a touchy subject for some but Ive been going through the forum and theres a lot of variation on skimming rates (not supply and fit)... ive seen everything from £2m2 to £20m2, day rates seem to be the same story £60-£100+ per day. Please Help?

2 - I need to board and skim my hallway ceiling and the sloped bit that goes up the stairs.. want to put a bead on it for a good finish. Do you use standard angle bead for corners more than 90dgs and bend to fit, or are there beads out there for this i.e. plastic?

3 - Back in the day, I can remember spreads working from milk/beer crates cos they were generally just right height. For standard ceilings, hop ups are too tall for me (im 6'2) and it seems stilts are allowed in some places, not in others.. and im a clumsy fker so wouldnt trust myself on em anyway, so what do I work off.

Thanks in advance - sorry for being a pain in the ass

there are always different opinions and ways of working ----we all do what works for us and gets the best results...

personally i plaster walls seperately (not two to same internal corner )

never used a corner trowel

some on the site will ???

rates------

depends on hoe established you are---what type of work you do ---who for ect...

we charge 250 day for plasterer and labourer-----

but mostly work on a price..

use a skim stop bead if not 90 degrees

i work off a beer crate if doing small areas or top of walls ---- stilts for ceilings ---whatever works best

knock up a small platform with scrap timber with a bit plyboard or somthing else on the top anything to get the job done mate try a wooden crate always in skips or in the back of industrial estates, pain in the arse dragging it about tho

Cheers Dan - I got my eye on one of those aerobic step ups that you see women padding up and down on... just the right height for me, just gotta get the bugger out of our gym at work :o)

i would pay to see a plasterer plaster opposite walls, using angle instead of stop beads, and best of all do it off a step reebok., for £60 a day!!! now i have seen/heard it all

When you are on site working for £2.50 £2.70 a metre if you can put on a ceiling and wall in one hit then then any spread who wants to earn a living wage will do it.

yeah but after some of the stuff i've read on here i wouldnt be suprised if people were actualy using them!

well i dont know about that mate, only joined forum this week, still having a good read through everything... dont wanna be accused of being another ahmed78 :o)
