Hi Guys,

Can anyone help?.Ive got a small lounge to plaster but the wall by the patio door has a hole roughly 5"width and depth which was a ventilation shaft due to a fireplace which was previously in existance.Whats the best way to fill this?.

Thanks

Paul.

by ventilation shaft i take it you mean 'flue'?
and its not to a chimney?
if not then you could just get your hands on a thermalite block or some description (the lightweight ones than float)...
u can cut em with an old handsaw to roughly the shape you need, gob it in the hole with a 4:1 sand cement mix 10mm behind the existing plaster line then either use your muck to render it flush or use a bit of hardwall...then just pva wall and skim as normal...
outside i usually try to source some matching bricks and cut the brick bond out and re brick it up...dont bridge the cavity though or youll get a damp spot..

Thanks for the prompt reply, will give that a go,not come across this before so wanted some ideas.

Cheers.
