Hi guys just a quick question i am planning on dotting and dabbing the inside of my fire place and placing an electric fire in there do i need to use fire board or can i get away with using regular plasterboard?

Fireboard is resistant to fire. Not heat. Won't make much difference on the 2. Personally I would render inside the fireplace 2 coats.... that would be heat resistant.
 
We monocouche our fireplaces in new builds now! Bit more expensive for clients but looks nice with log burners and uses up our left over bags nicely.
