Afternoon all,

I priced a job yesterday that involves covering an old fireplace that has been removed and skimming it so that it matches the existing plasterwork, just to make it a little trickier there is a small vent at the bottom that needs to stay uncovered.

Just looking for some general advice and if anyone has done a similar job. It is facing brick so not sure whether to use bonding or S&C?? Also not really sure how to leave the vent exposed as the bonding/S&C ill come out further if you know what i mean

Any advice would be really helpful

Cheers

Is the fireplace part of a chimney breast or on a normal wall ? Either way I'd be inclined to board over the hole left and cut your own vent in it - that way you are not bound by the current depth of the existing vent

Leave the boarded bit slightly less than flush so you can get a coat of bonding in, feather it into the existing wall, coat with PVA and then re-skim the whole wall / chimney breast - Looks far more professional , did one only last week

It's part of a chimney breast, thats a good idea i think i will board over it.

Cheers for the reply
