Hi, I was wondering what kind of plasterboard should be used for a small porch ceiling. The old board looks like 10 mm thick. But should I use fire resistant plasterboard? Or when is it obligatory to use fire resistant plasterboard? And finally should I use a specific ceiling plasterboard? Thank you

normal 12.5 will do for a porch, firecheck boards are usually found on garage ceilings, kitchen ceilings and also underneath stairs, you will be fine with normal plasterboard white side out. xxxxx welcome to the forum maybe introduce yourself first and god forbid do not ask how much should you charge lol

Ok, that's clear - It doesn't have to be fire proof. But I was going to install 10mm board since the old board I took down (due to leaks in the roof) was 10mm. I just have one other question. Would it be normal to place insulation, like rockwool or fibreglass directly resting on the back of the board? Would the weight of the insulation be a problem? (There was a big clump of what looks like either rockwool or fibreglass up there, not spread out, more or less half sitting on the joists in a ball). Or should I get some kind of rigid insulation board to sit on top of the joists. Thanks very much!

It would be easier to wedge some rigid insulation cut to size between the ceiling joists it just depends on how concerned you are about heat loss in a porch.

yup I would use something like celotex if I was bothered about insulation in a porch..

9.5mm board will be ok but 12.5mm is always better doesnt bow and for the theres nothing in it :-)

I got the 12mm board. Yea, I know what you mean - maybe insulation isn't so important in a porch - just that there is some already there, though it seems quite awkward to put loose insulation like rockwool on top of boards as you install them - yea the rigid ones make more sense. Just one other thing. The electric cable for the bulb is joined to the main cable just with a connector covered with insulation tape. I assume the regulations would call for a small plastic box screwed to a joist, with the connectors inside? Thanks
