flaky steel lintel

Hi lads gotta d&d a wall & above the fireplace/stove is a flaky steel lintel. The couple said the new won't be in use,just for show. will i have to wba it before d&d or patching up with bonding etc? cheers

Just clean it off and it should be fine, stick a few mechanical fixings in the wall.

I take it you mean flakey rust???

If so wire brush and give it a coat or paint else the rust could bleed through.

Nog it deep, screw board on nogs then stick onto that.
