Can anyone recommend a decent float for sand an cement finish broke mine in the van other day got a couple of external float finishes coming up cheers

Where did you get yours from paddy?
Dairygold co-op Mogeely Co Cork. But have seen on line. They are harder than the gypsum ones and last a good bit longer, though with that take a bit longer to break in. The small ones are great for second floating break in much quicker than mahogany which are lovely also.

Just gave mine to a builder I do work for do concreting, had it sanded down for use, but found it to smooth going over s&c, seemed to slide over everything instead of cutting through the gear if that makes sense. Had to wait until the gear was a lot harder than normal to use it too as it stuck everywhere.
Worst float I ever bought.
Diamond float is ok

How are you ruling it K? With S&C I give it loads of lath preferably a good straight 1x1.5 maybe 4ft long, first up and down and then lightly across always with a light sawing action of lath. I find concreting doesn't get them how I like, also if you find too smooth pull them across the edge of a saw few times, though have not had go do very often. Oh not your nice saw by the way.

Good idea with the saw! Like that one, noted.
I rule off with a feather edge, on edge at first and then close it in flatter like a Darby.

I straighten like that internally, ceiling angle first then corners and last skiting and up through, darbying with the edge to finish, what I described earlier was for external S&C ,I find the lath much better outside as leaves it more open , the sawing action of lath really cuts through the waves with out dragging the stuff too much.

I do same outside but if I want to leave it open just keep the edge square
