Floor Insulation

Hiya

I need to start insulating between the floor/ceiling joists in my loft conversion... what would you use?

Not to sure what you would use but whatever it may be try ebay I was quoted 150 for insulation for electric foor from b+q ebay 27 with delivery .

I think that system also goes over the joists which I cant do as height is a real issue :-\

Its mainly for sound insulation to be honest as its going to be my office up there it needs to be damn quiet as I work late and often noisy up there :D

try the isover one then that's the one we use on site for sound proofing
 
Rockwall between joist.

For flooring trideck which is aporox 40-50mm inc your 22mm chipboard.
or as above your impact rubber mat befor you lay final flooring which is 15mm.

lol I really need to make sure that I keep everything on top of the joists down to a minimum got 22mm p5 fgoing down :-)
 
Could you overboard the rooms below with sound insulation included and that solves the problem of not doing it in the loft or is that just mental?
 
Use the thickest you can fit in when you start looking at insulation you will find you get what you pay for.has it got to be layed on mesh a usual requirement for a loft conversion?

I would check because insulation is one of the things the building inspector will want to see before you can carry on ( we used to take pics and carry on then have a laptop ready when he arrived). It's to do with a fire regs it stops the insulation dropping in the rooms below in a fire, I would check rather than plead stupidity :)
 
Sounds to me that building control are not involved Flinny or it would be on the drawing or instructed by BC. Danny ?????

but there was no mention of how it should be insulated :-\

We converted our loft in 2012, used Rockwool as sound insulation, to save money I thought I'd suspend it using flame retardant fabric. (Not chicken wire builders suggested) Building control weren't happy, wanted to know the flame retardancy etc. etc. Which I couldn't give them. They wanted the upstairs ceilings double boarded, the plasterer was not chuffed as he'd just finished the rooms below.
I ended up fireboarding all of the downstairs to keep building control happy.
