Got some ceramic floor tiling to do over a electrical underfloor heating mat, on top of a floating floor ,any recommendations for type of adhesive and grout , normally use a rapid set and whatever make i can get hold of but never tiled over these heating elements before , i think i will kneed something quite flexible on the floating floor any suggestions (spunk be nice) :-\

the 2 part mix stuff is the best..gr8 stuff.. has fibers in it the stuff is like rubber when set and you have the flex gout to go with it..cost a fair bit you will need a trade discount.. bags of powder about £30-£40 but the stuff you add is £50-£60 for 5 liters.. no water needed..

By Bal i fink look it up green bag i fink,

you can use spunk if you like but i would suggest you would need a few gallons, if i were you id get on the nest now and start saving it up !!

p.s when using spunk and underfloor heating you quite often get a cheesy aroma for a few weeks after switching the heat on... this is quite normal

id go for webber rapid set and use ad250 as an admixture instead of mixing with water, that'll give you more flexibility than a scouse blonde. tho topps do a 2 part flexi now and its pretty damn cheap, just dont think theres any guaruntees with their stuff as they give the recipes to other companies to make on their behalf... and materials used most likely wont go through a quality check before, during or after production.

Far as i know its recommended to self level over underfloor heating first...to prevent damaging wires when u use the trowell to spread adhesive...or you could use a plastic trowel...but best to self level. Check that heating is working before u level...and then tile with flexible adhesive...topps rapidset grey flexible is great stuff tried it the other day...long pot life, good to work with only 9.40 a bag at mo trade...44.99 retail so u can make some coin on it ;) and a flexi grout. Then i think you are supposed to advise the customer to gradually turn up the thermostat over a few weeks...

best to check on tilersforums havent done an underfloor heating yet have heard there have been probs though with hitting wires etc...could be costly!

id personally cover my own back and tell them not to turn it on for 4 weeks, but you ncan almost guaruntee they'll stick it on anyway "just an hour wont hurt" then they'll be calling you back cos the grouts cracking and what not and they'll be adament they never turned it on. thats my opinion, i allways look at the worst case scenario to cover my own back, no problems yet 8) then again id be tempted to not connect the thermostat untill 4weeks later, means going back and leaving half a job, meh :-\

I don't no how you dare criticise me on my question after some of the questions that are asked on this site . As has been mentioned in many many many posts prior to mine if you are not happy about the question don't respond to it . This is probably the first question i have asked on this forum, and that's only because i am not familiar with the adhesives used in conjunction with the electrical UFH , their site just specify a proprietary flexi adhesive and grout , what i wanted to know was which was the best product to use ,and that is all. The rest of the info i got from the UFH supplier, so in future keep your patronising comments to your self.

Paul
