Ok so whats the score I've never rendered this time or year, all I am doing is the scratch going to leave the top until weather in proves...what sort of temp am I looking for night and day to be safe and how long does it need before its safe to be hit by a frost?

Ideally, it should be above 5 degrees overnight and remain frost-free for at least 3 or 4 days. Make sure you bang plenty of hardener/frostproofer in the mix (it's cheap enough) but don't rely on it entirely. And sheet over the wall if you can :RpS_thumbup:

Does the frost proofer / hardener interfere with any other additives that go in ?? lime waterproofers etc ?? does it set any quicker ??

Just scratched a small extension this morning against my will but builder wants it on for his draw, and will be topping out shortly.

They usually tell you NOT to use with any other additives, but probably because they haven't tested them against the many (probably hundreds) of combinations that are available, I've used SBR, waterproofer AND frostproofer together and it curdles like fk in the mixer but it's never failed on me to my knowledge..........Just let it all mix for a while longer before adding sand & cement.
Put it another way, I wouldn't use frostproofer on it's own, and I don't rely on it as a 100% frostproofer but more of an accelerator to kickstart the curing process :RpS_thumbup:

We dont fire the mixer up until 5°and rising and only work in the panels the sun is hitting as its slightly warmer. On the colder days we tend to use frostproofer along with freeflo but put them in the mix at seperate times as it curdles when put in together. Always allow for an extra 5-10 minutes for the batch to mix

i was in the same situation a few years ago "free" builder pushed us to render an extension i warned him and got it cleared that if it all went tits up we get paid again to do it at a better time. low and behold few days later there was a little bit that started to crack wen he investigated the whole lot fell off the wall :RpS_lol:
just said told you so, ill do it in a few weeks and you owe me for this lot on the floor and the lot ill do in a couple of weeks, he went a bit red in the face explaining it to the client (made sure i was about for that diddnt want him blaming me for the mess)

Well, about 30 years ago we wet-dashed the back of a terrace and that night it was a hard frost. Three days later you could still put your finger through it............But it's still on now though :RpS_unsure:

Thanks for the warnings...bit of a cold spell in Bristol this week...i'm being pushed on this one as well, good advice above push the responsibility onto the contractor ;)

its not got above 2 degrees today in my part of the world ,north yorks, and some tossers were out with there bellemixer at the bottom of my road laying on a scratch at 8 this morn, whilst i was scrapping the window on my van, clueless.

Probably time served m8, you know how it is.

I did a ocr panel and pre rend panel last Friday @6c. Covered it up and Friday night it dipped to -5c. Hoping I get away with it. If not then it will get done again. Bloody BBC said it was going down to -1 overnight.

I did a wall once in dash, that night it snowed and it brought the gutter down. Next day it thawed and soaked the wall then it froze! You could see the sheet ice on the dashing and it was only on for 24hrs. That was in 1990 and it is still there today. I did another the year later dashing again and although frost wasn't forecast it went well below and the next day it was white over with frost. Again unscathed and still there.

I did a flat render job with frostproofer in below dpc and that froze on me while I was rubbing up. Slight crazing on the surface but still ok. I think I have been lucky.

Were doing ocr at the moment but in all fairness where we are its not too bad, were getting panels on by 11am and rubbing them up by 2-3pm I think its got to rain tomorrow though.
