I have had domain names over the years but never done the website, now I want to get one again and possibly do a website with help when ready, should I just go and buy one and then sort the website, they give so many options, my name is available for the site I would use..

Secure the domain first John, the website can follow in due course :-)

Buy it through 123-reg.co.uk :-)

So what is needed?

A name that's not taken, is that called the domain?

Then hosting...whats that?

Then someone to build it for you?

lol and I can do all that for you :-) for the small fee of £350 :-) and that covers hosting and domain name for 2 years :-)

.co.uk domains rank ok in the UK but a .com will hold more weight but they are more expensive....

when i am buying domains for my affiliate sites I will buy either .com .net or a .org and in that order... the rest dont hold any real value and google seems to rank the top ones better... Others will argue with me but I have been testing and playing with domains and sites for the last 12 or so years :-)

:D

if you want a site designed... it will be better to go through me (biassed)

But we charge around £50/£60 a year for hosting after the first free 2 years and that includes all of the sites CMS updates etc :-)

speaking to my lad today who does websites he was saying people are buying the .it domains as a part of the name like www.fix.it also he was saying having video as part of your site increases the seo by x8 what you recon dan? he also got his first affiliate :)

buying domains with the .it or whatever is only good if you are going to type the whole domain in... otherwise it will struggle to rank...

and the video is not exactly true... yes video helps but its not for SEO.... its for conversions and keeping people on your site... videos pointing to your site is great for SEO.. but you need to have lots of views and also for it to get shared about a lot... ie like a viral video :-)

Got ours through GBBO, which was BT and google not yola. I can access it through the google home/gmail page. It's a crappy template thing though but only costs a few quid a year for the domain.
If I find some free/cheap webspace I might design a decent one.
