Hi Everyone, looking for some advice please.
Ive done a lot of reading and watched videos etc but need getting conflicting information.
Took off some lining paper that had bubbled up in the corner and saw there was a crack in the plaster running up to the ceiling and behind it the bricks had pulled away. I got a structural surveyor out and he said this was due to thermal contraction/expansion over time as expansion gaps werent a thing when these flats were built.
I was told to use a specific grade of mortar to fill the gap (shown in pic 1) . While doing this, I removed loose plaster and found a fireplace was boarded up by the previous owner using a sheet of wood as show in the pic.
Ive boarded it up using plasterboard and now looking to repair the walls.
I had looked at using Bonding or Hardwall to fill in the holes myself (budget restictions) before getting the room skimmed.
I bought a bag of Hardwall but read that it shouldnt be used on old properties and use lime plaster instead. I phoned British Gypsum and they said not to use it due to it not being the same as the original breathable lime plaster.
As im just patching up small areas, do I stilll use Hardwall or do I need to use Lime Plaster? On some areas the lathes have no plaster, some bits are exposed brick and on other bits, the top layer of plaster has come away but the rest in intact.
Would be grateful for any advise on what to do here.
