i posted a while back about rendering some kennels and the need for the render to withstand power washing each night.. got some good advice but couldnt source the products ... was wondering if i could incorporate granno into the topcoat mix if i could get it fine enough .. also the customer wants the render to reach the floor .. major issues here .. any advice lads

how about this one mate, ive only seen it done once many moons ago,i think they called it pig scim, dont laugh ,render as per,key up ,let it cure and then scim with 1=1 cement and hydrated lime ,make sure the backings soaked, itll go off like a rocket else, saw it put on a livestock shed sorta thing were they needed to hose everything down daily, try a little sqm you might be surprised!

cracking not a problem mate? only thinking about the shrinkage... suppose the limes gonna help... gonna be f'cking hard tho :D

just a thought but if its surface finish your after then running a steel trowel over it, loads of pressure, keep it flat just after you float will close the topping right in... and you can use a silver sand (block paving filler) for the top coat of render..
cant really speak for the durability of silver sand in a mix though, 3:1 with cement should be ok, maybe church'll throw a bit of light on it?

I would just use a fine washed sharp sand for both coats , and use SBR as a additive about 1-2 litres per mix this will help hardern as well as repell the water from the jet washer also when dry you paint on a dustproofer/ hardner , 4-1 & 5-1 top coat will plenty hard enough.
