rend aid them

Look at the price of it though !!!.

I usually weak pva and whilst tacky get a coat on but i have just looked at a job where the guys wants me just to one coat render straight onto the lightweight block then skim, having done this before and having problems with it blowing im not keen but he is determined thats what he wants.

Forgive my five penneth's worth, but rather than rend aid, would a spatterdash coat not work ?? I've used them in the past and never had any probs - Just a thought ??

What do you guys do when rendering over lightweights ????

if possible I'll run a hose over them till they stop sucking otherwise sbr/cement slurry

I have always thought that the factory texture of those blocks is very poor, I wish they made them more pitted or something cause all the lightweight blocks I have worked with have been all but smooth apart from 2 very faint wavey lines running through them.

Oh and whilst Im on the subject why do metal lintels only have a factory key on one side leaving a perfectly smooth side which is always a worry to overcome ..... any reason for this ????

Spatterdash is a slurry mix made from 3:1 S&C mixed with watered down PVA - Apply it with a dustpan brush and push it into the substrate to create a stipple finish - sticks like sh*t to a blanket and provides an excellent key for the next coat

good post pristine a spatterdash coat is also cheap to do. can also be applied with a tyrolean machine.

i think a spatterdash is put on with a harling trowel lads .........if you brush a slurry on give it two coats and lay into the second while its tacky if you let the first stiffen itll kill the key from the block .....or give it a slurry and fire the same mix on with a tyrolean gun while the first is tacky then you can leave it cause youve got a key

Gypprime I use for walls which have been floated up for some time, hardwall or bonding suppose be ok with sand & cement, dry as old bones!! Anyone used it where the old skim been pulled off s+c walls, this can be a swine to kill suction sucks like hell, I norm give a skin of hardwall to neutralise the problem!

ive just been readin the fa questions regarding gyprime and it says it costs £70 a tub and british gypsum say when you water it down it covers 600sq meters.

thats like 12p a sqaure metre. ??? Thats gotta be as cheap as pva??

thats well good. anybody use this on a regular basis.

was wondering how long it lasts when it has been opened?

can it basically be used on any porous substrate where you would usually use PVA.

The reason i ask this is because most of the time i really dislike using pva. Im thinking if i could gyprime all porous substrates then use bond-it then skim i would be made up.
