We have constructed a chimney breast around an inset gas fire in blockwork and timber stud combination. It was originally boarded with Fermacell H2O cement board around the fire, the rest of the face/sides in pink fireline. The entire face (app 3.5m) then plastered using Everbuild Heatproof plaster.
Within a few days, it cracked around many of the joints.
went back and reboarded the whole thing entirely in Fermacell H2O board, scrim taped the joints, PVA everything and reskimmed with the same Everbuild heatproof plaster.
it has cracked again on 1 small joint.
this is all before the fire has been lit!
So, is there a way to repair this crack, or will it all need doing again?
