Firstly wondered what thoughts were on systems for shower rooms and bathrooms...i'm always more inclined to float walls (brick or block substrates) for numerous reasons rather than boarding, however with areas of hi moisture, MR board or aquapanel i'm told should really be used...but is there any problem with using hardwall here??

also if your useing large format tiles youll need to use cement based tile addy witch isnt compatable with a gypsum background

aquapanel boards are ok in the shower area, the rest depends on wether its going to be fully tiled. i would use hardwall on the walls. better to dot and dab em. i have used bonding on the walls and tiled straight on top of that using mapei tile adhesives.but only on walls that are not going to be jubject to shower spray.

sorry that should say , would NOT use browning

thanks for the advice. The other main concern is of course tiling which has been touched on. can MR boards be tiled or should this be aquapanal.

mr boards can be tiled onto and will take more weight unplastered so your better to leave them bare, id still use a hardi backer or aqua panel in shower areas though

yeah your sposed to use wba for mr boards but i hvent come accross a builder that wants to buy the stuff yet, usually if i have to skim some more often than not i have a bit o bondit knocking about in the truck so i just use that

ive thought about it before but ive usually got a bit of wba knocking about in the truck from other jobs so i just chuck that on

brick or block, render it,. studs then board it with aquapanel, mr board are not water proof just water resistant and will fail in a "wet room" environment and you still have to tank it , if it's a true wet room

rendering sounds a good option to me, with added waterproofer. therefor i can skim all areas which are not being tiled leaving the areas to be tiled with a sound background for the adhesive. thanks guys!!
