I'm refurbishing my kitchen and started taking some plasterboard down. I stopped when I noticed thin fibres (see pictures). There are some strips within with Gyproc written on them. Does this look like I need to get a sample tested for asbestos?

Could be asbestos is everywhere, cover it up rather than trying to remove it if you're worried

Sounds like old plasterboard if its got Gyproc written on it. You cannot see any asbestos fibres, they are invisible to the human eye. If in doubt leave the material in situ, put all you clothes which you were wearing in a plastic bag, seal off the area, have a shower and call the asbestos busters in to have a look. When doing any refurb work make sure you are wearing a FFP3 mask ideally a respirator. Make sure you are clean shaven before fitting the mask. Yes I have just done my asbestos awareness. Don't worry even if you have been exposed to the worst in 15 years time it will have mostly been destroyed by your lungs.

Get it check out for peace of mind. it can be sprayed with wet pva to calm the dust. Mask up seal the doors till its been tested.

Is it hessian scrim or what? ie is it just on the internal angles and joints? Some of the lads on here wouldnt of come across it on their 2 week courses ;)

yeah looks like jute

I came across some asbestos board below a window last year. Hacked a bit off accidentally and saw the tell tale fibers coming out of it.

Dunno bout anyone else, I wasn't taught this on an awareness course, but someone taught me to stick it in a lighter flame to see if it's asbestos. If it doesn't burn but just glows, it's likely to be asbestos.

Its one of the more popular places for i m8, especially on domestic, look on the HSE website theres a diagram of a house with it marked under windows. Thats the problem with theses courses m8 how can people learn everything in 1 day? courses should be baned nothing beats hands on experience.
