I'm putting on the top cement coat on a chimney stack tomorrow, what with all this rain about do you think i can put it on without wetting it first. I'm thinking it will go off a bit quicker without the wetting.

Welcome smash, without knowing the background, how long scratch has been on, how exposed it is. It's a bit of a guess for us to comment. Maybe put on a hawk/handboard/mortarboard full and see how it takes. If its only a chimney stack I'm sure you could handle it if it turns.

If it's a chimney it's prob already absorbed a bit of moisture if it's scratched well I would just mist spray it this time of year

If you've done the scratch coat correctly there's hardly ever any need to wet it on the day you top it off.

if it already has water proofer in it then with the air being damp wack it on dry. Wet it and it could take all day. If after 1/2m2 it is pulling in too fast then give a light mist of water.
