dabbed a couple of jobs recently the stud work is ok but on the walls when dried out gettin very faint cracks down some of the board joints ther has been no heatingon the houses all dried out naturally its rather annoying cant do much more really all we can do is scrim the joints

are you dabbing over old studd partitions ?? couldnt this be movement within the stud . i also think tape is crap now of days not like the old sturdy stuff, 4 inch wont really make a difference as long as your centering ur tape

to be honeat i only use fibres on re skims it stops them crazy cracking the problem in this thread altho probably would be eliminated with fibres it does seem as tho its a scrim problem.

If the cracks are on the board joints then it can only be movemet from the boards.Agreed the scrim nowdays isnt the best but must be something you doe whilst putting the boards on
Like suggested you probably
A) Not put enough adhesive on so the boards have moved slightly
B) Put to much adhesive on,so when drying out the boards have slipped very slightly
C) You did not allow enough time for boards set before removing packers under boards and skimming
D) Maybe the boarding wasnt great to start with i.e gaps to big between them ?
E) Are you sure you scrimmed all the joints ?Also bed the scrim in with a tight coat of plaster i beleive this helps to stop the cracks also it gives a visual mark of the joints and makes a missed joint more noticable.I always run a tight coat over scrim on my ceilings, walls also i i have enough to go at.

D)

Doubt it's any of the above the Walls even if they moved would have settled by the time it's skimmed

no mate they were skimmed 2 days after an all the packers are left down for the joiners to move i dont move em these are only very faint lines running down the joints im not really that arsed ive done all i can an thats it

were they old plaster walls which you dabbed over i have doubts about just dabbing over plaster walls i always wba (etc) but thats just me

just brick walls not block they had allready been dabbed over before but we ripped it back to the brickwork an yes all the walls had agood wet down before dabbing

But everybody dabs up to the edges dont they? I mark a line up at 4ft with a broken board and derby so I know where the board edge will be, but I'm assuming everybody does:RpS_confused:

I think your wright about the movement. But i suspect its not movement in the brick or building etc. He mentioned he wet the walls down first. In my experience water never seals and primes the surface well enough. Too little water and the dust reappears in minutes. Too much and the dabs resist bonding to the wall. Pva walls everytime. I made the mistake once of not sealing wall. Plumber chopped out a few days later for pipes etc, and i noticed a whole area of dab coming away from the wall. To check, hit the walls with the base of your hand to see if the dabs have come away etc.
