Hi all

I need some advice for plastering around a hole in the wall fire. The plaster needs to have a heat resistance of 70 degrees so ordinary plaster won't do. I've been looking around the web and have seen the Vitcas heat resistant screed and plaster but the whole chimney breast would need skimming so this won't do either. I have read about using a 5:1:1 sand, cement, lime render then having a lime finish using lime putty mixed with silver sand at a ratio of 1 sand to 1.5 lime putty. Has anyone any experience of using this? and would it be heat resistant enough as I wouldn't want it cracking or falling off?

Thanks

I have searched on here and other sites too. So I'm just trying to figure what the most easiest/cost effective method would be that will give the best finish.

I need the whole chimney breast skimming. The vitcas can only be used around the fire (upto 30cm on the sides and 60cms above) and we want to achieve a nice smooth finish, so dont want to see any joins between different products.

you can the the screed product around the fire/wood burner , but you can skim the whole breast with there finish , so you can render s&c above 60cm
