Hi people,
Although I've been a member of the site for nearly 4 years this is my first post! Be gentle! I've been plastering for 14 years and for the last 9 have been working for myself mainly doing domestic work.
I often use this site just to double check things and have to say I've often picked up great tips and different ways to plastering. I would never describe myself as the finished article as I find there is always someone who knows better ( but hey I married her!)

Was going to post a few thoughts (looking for opinions) about a job I've just taken on. Hope to hear your views!

Have to say I'd feel easier joining a dating site!!

Gary

Ok I'll ask on this thread (is that allowed?)! Basically I've just started a renovation job in a Grade 2 listed cottage. We've taken down all ceilings as they were nearly touching the floor. Conservation guy has come In and asked me to replace all ceilings with new lath and lime render/plaster which is fine. The walls aren't in great shape but need a skim. Conservation guy has agreed to go ahead with gypsum on the walls. Normally I would put a fine coat of Hardwall over to cover any hollows or imperfections before skimming. But I had a thought about applying universal one coat first which would help with the round corners and probably wouldn't be as harsh as hardwall as it has has a higher lime content. Basically has anyone done this ? I.e skim over one coat. I'm sure its ok but looking for reassurance!
thanks!

If your doing in one coat why skim it just do what it says on the tin , not forgetting your preffered bonding agent of course (if conservation allows)
Welcome

Hi Warrior, before the conservation turned up the customer wanted a multi finish style result. Explained to her that one coat gave a more cottage effect feel but shes still demanding "smooth" walls. They also backed off a lime putty finish due to cost so Im just looking for options really. Thought the one coat would be easier to work than hardwall and with a light devil float finish would be ok to skim over? As I say your thoughts are welcome.
Cheers warrior.

I thought purely as it's creamier and easier to work the corners and at the same time fills the hollows. Just a thought thats all.

hi shearsy,, ive never done this myself so maybe some of the other lads might have tried it and will be able to let you know what it sets like,,do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy mate,, all the best which ever way you do it,, sounds like it could be an interesting job your working on
