Hi guys.

I'm Lee

used this forum for advice for a while
so thought I'd sign up and join in.

also, wanted to ask if anybody in the South Wales
area (Cardiff,Rhondda. etc) would allow me to tag along for as much/little time as you are happy with. ( unpaid )
to learn the skills of plastering as I prefer hands-on work/teaching.

Thanks!
Lee

Welcome along Lee

Good luck to you mate - I'm sure someone from your area will be along soon.

Have you had a look around some of the local sites and see what companies are doing the work and then contacted them? best not to just walk on the site, you'll probably just get kicked off!

Can you travel - have you got your own car? This info may open more opportunities for you mate!

Hi Runs

I havent - yet.

Although that is my next port of call.
Im hoping local plasterers wont be pi**sed off that I'm calling..

My first attempt at practicing on a spare 8x4 board was disheartening
and thats when I knew I would be better off watching and learning.

to me, plastering is that step that takes a building from a 'site' to a home
and that must be satisfying to be a part of.

as im not trained in any construction
( aside from joinery in college )
I wouldnt even dare walk onto site lol.

Im still learning to drive
all my driving 'round is by the mrs.
but given chance id be wherever I had to be.

thanks run!!

Lee

ooooo errrr - I have the Runs now!! LOL

Good luck to you - nothing ever came to someone sat at home just waiting for something to come along!!

Have a look around and make some calls - offer yourself as a labourer to start off...... you will need to get some site experience somehow!

Cheers Grump - must be where we live..... LOL

Everyone has to start somewhere!
I remember when I was in my late teens - I had no idea what I wanted to be in the long term. I got an engineering apprenticeship and learned to watch and ask and practice.... I tried everything I could! Now I have a fairly good understanding of most construction areas, and what I don't know I ask!

I see posts on here and see that some of them really want to take a first step..... everyone had to start somewhere!
If Lee (or any of the others who post looking for opportunities) really wants a chance - he / they should put the effort in. No one is going to knock on their door and say "fancy coming to work for me?" without them looking in the first place

exactly, and its that attitude of hunting for better that will help to find good clients that good tradesmen deserve.
