would just like to say hello to my fellow spreads.im new to the site and from oldham currently working as a plastering tutor.

first day of term today.first batch of wannabe plasterers arrived this morning(most of them late)the futures not looking good for the future of plastering with this lot!:RpS_crying:

just induction this first week...then they start on sand lime mortar to get used to tool control...we seem to get the no hopers of society wanting to learn for some reason.

I remember starting in college in Ireland in 85' very keen, hardworking but the teacher was lazy, first two hours, set up scaffold in hut, break, then lime mortar render till one, then tidy up , out at four, learned to back horses mostly...

ive just had 6 weeks off...jumped on with my mate on a big plastering job in london...st johns wood road.is that near you?hotel was in kilburn...what a shithole.

I have been finishing off some skimming work in three new houses, three bag hits with about ten beads, shadow gap, skirting beads, windows and doorway walls, handy enough and local and the coin is good.

Not too far, twenty mins in quiet traffic, drove through there a million times, kilburn has good and bad areas, its sold as maida vale area now, used to be a very irish area,

ha.first hotel was called the windmill..cheap weatherspoons was across road to wash the dust down.was good to get on the trowel for a few weeks.only got into teaching 4 years ago as it went very quiet up here.still do jobs every weekend but these last few weeks have made me feel like getting back on the crown jewels .

You are still young, nice to mix the two if it meant an increase in your take home.

have two young kids to feed and a missus so although not as good as full time plastering its a steady job and still do the foreigners at wkd...so not too bad...and although i teach it by no means do i think that i no everything about plastering or have done every aspect of plastering.im learning things all the time...was lucky enough to serve my time with an old boy so learnt a lot of the old ways of spreading..without sounding boring love learning new/different types /ways of plastering such an interesting trade with a lot of history...
