Help get rid of my damp!

DI5plaster

New Member
I have an old solid wall sandstone barn / cottage (approx. 150 - 200 years old), I am having the dining room plastered however there is rising damp on the external walls and around the fireplace. The old plaster is onto a cement rendered wall with bitumen damp proofing however this has failed over time.

I am going to use damp injection cream on the exterior and hack off the existing cement render, tank it then replace with dot and dab plasterboard. Is there anything more / else i should do?

Thank you!

Rising damp does not exist .
Exterior levels will need work to overcome the issue .
do not use plasterboard on that type of property

That picture is on a sunny day lol!
It's rarely a metre through rising - 12 to 18 inches, but you're to cut back further to allow.

Rising damp is a fairytale

You must Never let a damp company into your property

: Some known causes of a property that has issue with damp

Insulation
Heating on/off - must be constantly ON, but low temp = 15 degrees C
Avoid your house getting warm, then cold
Modern paints
Cement render
Gypsum plaster
(Ground levels outside higher than inside)
Broken guttering or missing downpipes
Vegetation growing near the wall
Trees creating shade and moist air near a wall
Lack of ventilation - double glazing, no vents
Blocked chimneys - fireplace blocked up, no vents
Furniture against walls creating cold, damp areas
