Right gents I want to krend or other, the front of my house, it's currently dashed very old and tired looking, will be hacking and rerendering with krend hopefully, the substrate is red brick, smooth face, engineering brick I think, what can/should I use?

the other thing is I have never done any thin coat renders but have been in the plastering game for over 10 years which I have obviously done s and s render many times. There is only 20m2 of it to do so there is gonna be no time pressure there.

do you think I will be able to pick it up?

Also what sort of cost am I looking at for the mats? 20m2 with beads mesh ect, what type of beads and mesh should I be using?

will be doing the rest of the house eventually but just the front for now, will krend adhear to the old dash?

cheers Ben:RpS_biggrin:

it is always best to hack back to the substrate since the bond will be better however if the existing render is sound and not boast you can render over existing dash by removing as much of the stone as possible then apply hp12 basecoat and selected k rend topcoat. if you are rendering onto the brick you will need to remove any dirt / dust then apply a R7 liquid acrylic (bonding aid), hp12 basecoat then chosen silicone topcoat.

Will defo be hacking back would both trying to get over that plus whoever done it must have been pissed lol.

Please excuse my noobness could you give me more info on applications

When you say you are going to finish it in K Rend do you mean their Monocouche finish or an acrylic finish?

I do not use K Rend but I should imagine something like what Alexander said as a pre rend then either a Mono top coat or their cement render equivalent with an acrylic finish.

If you have not used either then I would not try it on your own. Try and get someone in who has done it before to give you a hand. Make a balls of it and what will the neighbours think?

k rend tends to bloom a lot , change colour , get damp and go black . wouldn't touch it with a shitty stick mate .if you've no experience of k finish (1.5mm top coat ) why not use weber o.c.r and paint or get someone to give you a touch with the top coat .

Wasn't necessary saying it has to be krend, I'm game for anything other than s and s, so from what you were saying is it a case of having to put a base coat on first? With what? S and s or proprietary backing?

So from hacking off to finished top coat what is entailed using webber if that's better? Do you use plastic thin coat beads or?

What about mono? That's a case of laying it on proud then scratching back the next day?

cheers men

Get the scaffold up and I'll come and give you a hand. 20m2 will cost you roughly £350-£400 in Wetherby materials. I'm sure i've got some 3mm K in ivory and primer if your interested.

Cheers Rossi, £400 just on the mats wow wasn't expecting it to be so expensive :RpS_scared:, not saying I won't get it done like, was expecting a couple of tonne maybe, thinking a little closer to spring march probably

20M looking at say £6 per M for your render, you could use rendaid for the key coat so max £15 and 2 tubs of 1.5 at say £60 and a tub of primer for say £80 tops.

No worries. If the old dash is solid you could work over it. Save on labour and a skip. If I'm doing any thin coat between now and when you do yours I'll let you know and you can come and have a look.
