Hi, looking for some advice, have had a plasterer to quote for a room. Some plaster coming off, he said we need to strip back any loose plaster which I don't have a problem with, and then we need to paint the whole room in blue grit, seems a lot of work to do when paying someone to do a job, have had plastering done before and never had to do this, is it normal? Thanks

Would you prefer if he charged you extra and did the blue grit himself?.

Have never seen a problem arise because a job was too well preped, like above, if price already tight margin isn't long in shrinking. Would take his advice re the grit.

There could be a few reasons, the price might be tight so he's saving a visit by getting most of the prep done before he arrives, he could be very busy and not have the time to prep, he might think he's doing you a favour by letting you do that part, it may be the way he usually works etc.

If you're worried about it or just curious I would suggest you just ask him why. I doubt he'll have a problem answering a polite question, as most tradesmen will happily bore you to death with the ins and outs of their trade and methods.

what was the outcome of that one?

Blue grit can take 24 hours to go off so would mean 2 trips to do the same job...
