Hi there looking for some advise on K Rend.I built my house last year got someone to come and s/c render finish which was a disaster and had to take it all off back to the block. long story short got new guys in to put K rend on which he suggested s/c finished with K rend ft top coat of about 8-10 mm all was going well with s/c until he started to k rend by hand, the first few panels all looking good till the sun came round and noticed lots of large hollows.Alarm bells ringing.Put the straight edge on myself to find a good 6-8 mm variation with only a 8-10 mm top coat. One of his panels already will have to be removed backed to block as when he scratched it back he hit the scratch coat, boy is applying it by hand with trowel but not using any other means of keeping the panels straight he has only done 3 small panels with K rend maybe 6 with scratch coat lots still to do 250m squared approx.Should I be looking for a 3rd contractor or give the boy a chance he is will to take it off at his own cost and try again?????????
F;()k it Where can I find a descent K rend applicator for the highlands of Scotland accommodation supplied with good food and a taste of the best whiskey in the highlands!!!!!

Yes, get shut!

Find someone who has a machine and is willing to travel, it is the right time of year to chance Scotland. Maybe PFT Scotland can find you someone local? Your local K Rend rep may even know someone.

You will need at least 10mm on a scratch coat.

Bear in mind with the best will in the world even a deviation of 1mm will show up when the sun is at a certain angle to the wall. Usually for up to 1 hour of the day.

A machine ,does not make you a good renderer ,it only puts its on ,seen some great work from hand balling ,worked on a job ,the inside plasterers had done a bit of mono ,liked our finish and wanted a machine ,i said with respect "bit like you buying jimi Hendrix guitar ,you may own it ,but you will not sound like him " learn to rule off first and know the material you use

To many idiots about that don't know what they are doing when it comes to rendering. When looking for someone to render your house don't be afraid to get references or go and look at some of the previous projects, don't be fooled by just a website.

Sounds like they are having a practice on yours if he's offered to try again... It doesn't fill you with confidence. Plenty of bad render about if all else fails look for some quality reccent render and knock the door.

Trouble is that are so many Like this who are not proper plasterers or renderers having a go at it because it seems like a good thing or at least that's what they think they are on to.

I don't know how they get away with it but there are loads near us who are shocking.

I can't understand though. When I started people avoided rendering unless they were accomplished plasterers as it required another skill level straightening up thick coats.

Fast forward to now and 2 day coursers can't wait to get on the fancy krend regardless of the consequence

I'd be up for it for the whiskey alone but can't go anywhere for a couple of week at least :-(
