flat boy skim

Private Member
skimmed some ceilings in a house about 6 weeks ago,and got a call from him today saying theres a hair line crack running straight through the center of the ceiling, (is it my falt , i did everything right as in ,used P.V.A and scrim) he wants me to go back over there and have a look ,AM I TO BLAME OR NOT ???

try using plaster fibres in the skim , helps on re sprays were it might be put on a bit thicker than normal , cause it sounds like a shrinkage crack to me .

yea then u gota go back and rub it down.. then hover up all the dust lol and even paint it again lol

i got 2 bags of out of that jointing compound gos off in about 3 mins rub down within 10 mins.. worth its weight in gold on the decoration.

I always advice customers when overskimming artex that it may crack as often it does !

i went 2 see a job were all walls were sound but had crack ALL over spider web style.. done a few b4 with no combacks just rolls of scrim! any how said should be fine.. she said SHOULD! i dont like the sound of that!

Plus those sort of cracks can open and close with different room tempretures so it might not be there when you go and have a look ;)

if there was no crack before and it hasnt blown i'd offer to put it right mate
but if you or ste cov or richard brown or anyone on here did it and it cracked its not down to bad workmanship so why should we go back and re do it ???

i've done things like that in the past mate, sometimes its not your fault but if itll only take a couple of minutes out of your time then it gives a better impression. and you've got more chance of getting repeat work than if you tell them to f**k off cus its nothing to do with you. its not like that lad who hit the wire a few days ago, that was alot of money for something thats not his fault and completely different. just explain sometimes it happens but youll put it right.

I only give a 5 week guarantee for this exact reason FBS ::)
The world is always moving mate, so tell him this was the cause of the crack ;)

eeeemmmmm this is the ceiling befor lol :-X

look at whats around mate? ask if they been in the loft since you plastered, do they slam the doors? just give him things to think about. It my well have shrinked but then again if movement is the problem you could be back again and again? I would offer to reskim at no cost as a good will gesture and let him know that if if the crack comes back that it,s not your fault and you will not be able to come back until the problem is sorted and he will have to pay you after that.

lol i did say ,have you been in the loft and he did say yes , ???

If hes been in the loft then I would put the blame on him, have a look at the joists if there 600mm centres then he is asking for cracks if hes walking around up there. I would still reskim for him but only the once.

Reskim seems excesive. Had a crack in my kitchen ceiling which reapered 3 times. Ended up reboarding ceiling and having the joint at next joist. Rake it out and fill it.
