pulled down a ceiling the other day... and it was hard work along the edges because of the hessian scrim.. cant get over how much stronger it is... than normal scrim. can u still buy this stuff

i was thinking about using it over big cracks... what do u reckon. or do think normal scrim is enough to cover the big 1's

The thing with hessian scrim is the extra time applying it, we used to spend a day scrimming up and beading and we used to get paid for it, don't get bugger all for scrimming these days :(

Not to mention the extra thickness you have to put on to cover it.
I don't think it's as good as fibre tape, mind you the quality of tape varies greatly. I've had a couple of boxes of cheap scrim (£1.10 a roll) and it's nowhere near as strong as the dearer stuff.

Hessian scrim, or i think we used to call it jute scrim, was a pain to put up and scim, hence the trowel, float, trowel to cover it. Saw some in TP last week.

thought the hessian scrim the brown one was for ceiling wall angle and the cotton scrim the white one was for the flat joints on the ceiling cos its quite a bit thinner

Some years ago I turned up on a new site and the foreman said he would get me some scrim from the compound, anyway he drops a few rolls of jute and I think oh @@@@ I hate that stuff. Still must get on, mix up some thistle spread it along some joints and grab a roll of scrim, go to unroll it and it just falls apart in my hands (literally to dust) ??? Turns out they bought a whole load of it many years previous and it had suffered some sort of dry rot :D

jute skrim should be left in the skip with rake and bath and before anyone starts ranting I was chained to a rake and bath for 18 months

used that everbuild silverscrim for a bit...... but i think they forgot to put the sticky stuff on it, as it wouldnt stick.

Anyone know when sticky fibre scrim was first in th U.K. Ide never seen it before untill i was in AUS in 1982 and brought some back, i know sad isnt it, anyway it was yellow and good stuff but not seen in my area before.
Lucius.
