Hi forum, new to this one hope you guys can assist.

Getting an extension built at the moment, builder has sub contracted the roughcasted to coat the extension and my existing house ( 3 elevations ).
they are using Powerwall and a Durite chip.

The rear went ok but they have made a poor job of the gable end and the front of the house.
patchy and best way to describe it like shadows where the chips are not even, looks worse from a distance.

Builder who is the main contractor fortunately agrees it is a poor job and is intending to re re do the gable end and the complete front elevations.

My concern is now how many coats of roughcast can you keep coating over.
existing house was roughcasted with probably a scratch coat onto the brick and a top coat with a grey chip.
property is an ex council eastlkilbride property.
it now has x 1 coat of power wall which is they are intending to put another coat of Powerwall on top, so potentially their shall now be 1 x original scratch coat and 3 x top coats.

Would there be an issue with the weight of all this render ?.
existng roughcast was ok. Solid eneogh. Not falling off.

Any replies and advice much appreciated.

Thanks cammie.

Alright cammie? How does the cast on the extension look ie( on to bare block work) and did they scratch coat over the existing cast then coat and hit or did they coat it once an hit it? I wouldn't be to keen on them addin another coat on top???

Thanks for replies, new extension was onto blocks which they scratch coated first and then the power wall top coat.
front was SBR sealer on the top of the original roughcast and then top coat of Powerwall and chips no scratch coat.
I was suspicious that the SBR was done correctly and possibly the reason why it turned out patchy.
but the builder said the Powerwall could go straight onto the original roughcast, no need to bond as it meant for this purpose.
either way it going to been another coat.
How would they get their coat of Powerwall off ?. Would they just chip away at it.
or get into it with a pneumatic chisel of some sort of power tool ?

28 mm is a fair thickness, so I'll drill a couple of test holes until I hit the brick to find out the thickness of the original and the new Powerwall coat.

Any further replies appreciated.

Sound like they are cuttin corners mate, powerwall do a fungacidal sealer, then a base coat, before top coat. I would normally scratch coat over existing cast before casting again, gives it all nice and flat background, think they have failed to control the suction of the original cast therefore as you describe patchy lookin, and putting on in one coat ain't helping. I wouldn't let them add in top, but if they hack it all off and do the same again it won't be any better! Sounds a right mess? If you're builder is fobbin you of with bullshit contact powerwall for a spec sheet:RpS_thumbup:
