How to deal with this ceiling crack?

I've just had a room skimmed and when dry, this crack appeared in the ceiling. This picture is just a portion of the crack, it actually almost spans the whole length of the room (but not completely, and that's at either end).

I've been told two different things:

1) Mist coat and fill with toupret
2) Mist coat and fill with CT1 caulk and filler.

It's hard to give you advice as to many variables,
Original ceiling substrate, lath plaster, plasterboard, joists spacing 400 450 600.
Condition of substrate, blown, water damaged, thickness/ weight.
Number of coverings, coats of plaster, artex, coats and types of paint.
Either overboard & plaster, batten - board & plaster or rip it all down and start from fresh.

You could try and tighten up the crack, if its overboard on a lath ceiling, as long as you piloted the holes first. Ames Tape it for sure . Be better to give it a mist coat first though .

Have you sorted the floorboards?
Got the floor/edging sander coming out this week.

Thanks everyone for your comments. One of our original quoters said we needed overboarding, but the person we ended up going with said we didn't - so we trusted him. Sh*t happens.

It's just a double skim coat over the old plaster, which was exposed when we removed the paper that was covering the ceiling.

We've contacted someone else about overboarding so we'll see what they're looking to charge. If we're going to get that done, should we leave the mist coating the rest of the room until after that, or can we proceed with the four walls as normal?

Just mist coat the walls, but there's no point in doing anymore painting if you are going to have the ceiling over boarded and skimmed.
