I Give up at learning to render. iv spent the last 4 days in a row tryin yo do a few small patchs and the arch way out side.. the patchs has miss's on them (shallow bits!) the arch way looks so crap i ripped it down and am trying to find a new way to make it. i spent over £100 out my own pocket tryin to do this job now i have no time left im booked out till November and iv left some ones house half done!

mate it was a hard job for a good render man.this is why plastering is hard the first thing you shud learn in render is to sponge and then float then put on and rule got to learn correctly to have any chance and as inside ,patching takes a good PATIENT mani told you that the best render patch men ive seen use wood floats and the sand must be clean as for the archway why the heck youd try this ive no idea but i suppose you have to good luck hope you figger it out

thanks mate'e im sure ill sort it out .. ic now garn and screwd a ply arch to the face that gives me 10mill on the inside of the arch way hope i can make it work out im ganna pop back there after a days work 2 moro! i dont wanna be a let down so im gana do wot ever it takes 2 leave a good job.

all good thanks to del for the time to help with your advice i managed to get a plasterer to help me with the set up for half a days wage.. worth paying to learn in my case

yeah i did but went bk the next day and they dint like the way we boxed in one part ect so ripped most if it down did it another way on SUNDAY then went bk 2 day put top coat on and it just dint work out.. steped bk at looked at it and the free hand bead i set up looked crap and the finish was looking crap.. so i ripped it all down..(broke my heart) went bk at 4pm to day to fixed one side of the 12mil ply arch shape iv vut to make a perfect arch shape.. ect ect pain in the ass i will put up new pics when i go bk.

The ply you have cut for one side, use as a template for the other side, so you have both sides set up. This way you can do the underside in one hit, which then free's both faces. The way you're doing it with only one side set up means you can only work to one edge, then you will have to take down and set the other side up, thats of course if you don't loose the edge while taking it down, and repeat the process. To sum it up, set both sides up, render the underside, pizz orf to another job, come back the next day and strip it down, do both faces, you've now got too hard edges to work too. No risk of breaking the edges as well. This way takes more time but its idiot proof. But if you are careful you can do it all in one morning, saves going back again. Arches are easy once set up, this takes the time as you've found out mate. I wanna see the finished result mate, back on here at 9, ganna watch top gear :D

ha ha yea del i am going to set both sides up i just ran outa time and also mate hard 2 explain but it ent as simple as a arch way.. the old ceiling line in the door way is lower than the arch way! so iv had to box this in witch cuts into the arch as well! my camera broke on me last week, I'm taking the pics on another camera and will up load the all in a day or so.

Another little trick Del is to the spray the ply with WD40 so when you strike it the SC isnt bonded to it and it comes away clean.

Good little trick mate, normally soak it in water with the brush before striking it if its a thin edge, or a gentle tap around with hammer..........that sometimes goes tits up :)

Yeah but shutter release agent normaly comes in minimum 5 litres and not cheap and you would never use it all on one arch, small can of WD40.
