Hi everyone
I want to repair a wall which is in a bad state. There was a leaking gutter above the window which has been repaired now. I have taken a layer off in a small area but I don't know what I am looking at. The house is 1905. The wall is exterior facing. When I tap the wall it sounds hollow in places and solid in some. Where I have made a hole it is grey and very crumbly/sandy. I will try to attach a video.

Hack it all off and put insulated PB on. Once you start hacking it off, you’ll Probably just keep chasing it Leaving a few islands of solid stuff which you may as well hack off anyway and start again.

I knowYou said was a leaking gutter but still looks like the window is - or - the previous window was - poorly fitted and water ingress has resulted and still would have or will in bad rain
“IF” that is an issue it needs addressing

That's Lime plaster ..
Plaster is blown and ideally whole wall needs replastering (make sure it's a lime based plaster )

Your going to need someone experienced with those materials and not just a skim monkey
