I'm in love with a man called Marshall

Artex Boy
So I've been fighting this for about 2 years. Me and Marshall had our ups and downs and like any hot blooded male, I began to look elsewhere.

I was getting attention from others, plastic ones, bendy ones.. emailing me, enticing me.. telling me how good they will make me feel.. how much easier my life would be.

Eventually, I gave in.

I began seeing other trowels. Fancy ones with cork handles, you name it.. I had a go on em. While Marshall began to gather dust in my garage, wrapped gently in an oiled towel like a f**k**g baby, totally undignified for a trowel of his calibre. It never felt right, he was my first.

I became somebody else. I used to have two mt's and a hand board. Now I had to get a bigger van to keep all these new f**k**g trowels in.

I kidded myself that my work was the best it's ever been, it was easier.. but was it really? Or was I just playing about with wet plaster?

Well dusted Marshall off and started using him, took a few gauges to get used to leaving the gear the f**k alone but it all feels right again. In the words of andyG. One trowel, one love.

Happy spreading c**ts

I still use speedy though, great tool

For what its worth, in my skimming world, I'm going to go back to either a 11" tyzack or MT. Speedy is staying, the rest will become floor scrapers or filler applicators.

I think you reach a point where you can use any trowel And get a good finish. So can be fooled by the new shite

I've looked recently at work I've done 3 yrs back with my tyzack and its just as good as what I do now. Yes I'm more confident, can put bigger gauges on etc, but at the end of the day its all about the finish.

The most comfortable trowel for me is the tyzack. Found nela quite the opposite.

Which model mate. I replaced my 11" wooden handled one with 13" rubber :D
Thinking about it, because I can be quite sporadic when it comes to skimming, I can probably put more pressure on and have better control with a smaller trowel from the start.

I only bought the tyzack as I needed a trowel urgently and it was local and cheapish. Was refurbing a flat and had my bro in law to do the skimming when he had spare time, but my mate put his foot through the kitchen ceiling daft c**t, so had to step up :D

Marshall Town best trowels on the planet by far. Refina are good tho. The rest are shite in comparison (my personal opinion) each to their own main thing is you leave a decent result

Every single one of them! Thought it’s better taking a pic than explaining-:). Had one with the red handl but went under the wheels of the scissor lift-:(

What a lovely story you cant (as u were)

That's cool of you mate...cheers. Might get a tyzack 11" carbon, mine was SS.
Carbon is really best for me. Tyzack I can go all day without feeling my wrist or forearm f**k*d. Nela on the other hand after 1h I just want to throw it in the bin. However, the steel nela is made of is slightly better than the red handle tyzack, but the discomfort is just killing it for me. I have 3 more vintage tyzack 11" and I honestly think this is the best trowel ever.

I found the handle on this a bit bulkier for my liking

Thanks for info mate. Mine had quite a chunky handle but got used to it. Theres a decent tool shop not too far away so will pop in.

14" MT does it all for me with bit of speed skim to help it along.
s*p*r*lex comes out for a final wipe sometimes but mt leaves it good enough imo.
Bought a plazi a couple of years back wen fell for all the hype on here it's not been out the box yet.
Always kept My mt in its own private box but after last job I let it mix in the big tool box, been bugging me so wen back home it's having some tic and putting back in the private executive box !

And it's a hawk not a hand board that's wot artists mix paint on ! :buitre: :coffe:

Nice. Was always taught hand tools , trowel n board. x

Think we’re all guilty of being disloyal to mt with these new trowels I keep swapping constantly it does my head in .

Tried plaziflex, loved it until I realised I was leaving walls wavier than the English channel. Scared me so went back to 14 MT!

I will say though, speedskim has been a game changer for me, 600/1200, without a doubt gets the gear flatter than just MT, being about 5inches tall the poll attachment is a pleasure to use! Honestly think everything else on the market is a waste of time but each to their own, 100 plasterers plaster in 100 different ways!

When I first started in this game there wasn’t anything like speed skims or super flex etc it was basically hand board trowel and brush chuck it on take lines out chuck it on again then trowel it up all this new gear is like learning all over again but always use MT you know where you stand with him we have a mutual respect for each other

Use nella 13 in carbon . Got 13inch carbon xtra light that feels better to use but doesnt play nice at end. Though done bit of render and roughing since to might give it antheer try
