Hi, I’m new to the forum and plastering in general so please bear with me.

I’m fitting a new shower cubicle onto aqua panels which are to be fixed to bare brick (not very level to say the least) and I’m wondering what sort of preparation i will need on the brick to get the panels nice and straight and secure.

The brick was covered in some sort of mortar which mostly came off with the old tiles. Should i be replacing the old mortar, is there any need? I’m sure there is a simple solution but the Jargon is baffling me at this time on night.
Cheers.

Just bond your aquapanel to the substrate using a waterproof adhesivethen mech fix just to make sure, and then tile, wallcrete or whatever you want

Wallcrete would be nice cheew, don't know of anyone on here who has expertise in that kinda thing tho, but it would be the way to go, there is one guy might be able to advise on wallcrete, can't remember his user name tho?:-0

Hahaha, footie badge guy, I don't think you'll lose any sleep mate, I think dragons den would be next stop fir him,?" I'm sorry it's pish so for that reason I'm out"

could always get the clay monster round, but dont turn the shower on though:RpS_scared:

Thanks for the quick response. Does it matter if there are gaps behind the board, is that acceptable? I wont bother filling all the holes where mortar fell off if not.

For the shower it's self does this seem like a practicle method :-

Fit aquqpanel
fit shower tray upto aqua panel then tile down to shower tray.
Then fit surround.

Cheers

I've dabbed aquapanel on walls with flexible floor tile adhesive. Couldn't bring the profile of the shower out any further cos they wanted it flush with the wall. Agree its best to baton it, but I'm pretty confident the aquapanel won't budge.

Well... You asked for them!
They are all of the same wall, which I have found out is some sort of pre fabricated (2 plaster boards glued either side of a cardboard lattice, photo3) this scares me as I have to fix aqua panel, tiles and the mixer shower to it.
I oonly opened it up to put some noggins around where the shower will attach but was greeted with this.

Thought I would treat yous to my first ever skim, drying at the minute waiting for the second coat. I know it's nt great but I am pleased so far.

Cheers again for the sound advice

I'm nt even sure if I'm supposed to let it dry at all. It's only just started tho so I'll stick another skim on now.

Paramount studding !! You might be better off fixing a false wall in front of it to house your pipework, shower mixer etc then screw your aquapanel to that's

ye mate id do has warrior says if i was you, put a false wall in front of it to hide all the shite

new sig i see
:RpS_cool: like it

I fitted a new shower and re-tiled a bathroom on Paramount walling in one of my rentals last year without any problems. For the pipework I just ran a hand saw (old) down the wall where the pipes were to be run, took the surface layer of board off and then used a hammer to knock the bits of cardboard out which come as clean as a whistle because you've run the saw through them. Pipes in and a bit of whatever I had to hand at the time and then tiled straight over using waterproof tile adhesive. Job done.

Cowboy!

I would have put a tanking system on it any probs with the tiling later and that Paramount is going to turn to mush

hi all i have just joined this forum as i was looking up on the best ways to fix aqua boards to stone walls that i have just hacked off, i have been told that universal bonding compound would be ok as long as i use frame fixings aswell when the adhesive has set has anyone else used this method?

Hi Tomber

You need to have a mechanical fix to hold the boards to the walling, best thing to do is batten off the walls, or fit a wall lining system, then fix the boards to these.

Water or moisture will eventually get through the grout between the tiles and to the board (or even as vapour through another route through or behind the board). if you use a typical board adhesive - they will then soften and delaminate........ Imagine the weight of a quality tile backer board and tiles and adhesive coming away from the wall down into a bath or shower..... not good!

If you want more info on the correct use of Knauf Aquapanel Interior - drop me an E Mail to [email protected] and I will send you some information and details

BTW - this is something a DIYer can do - but if you want a quality job, it may pay to get a professional in! let us know where your based and I am sure someone on here will be able to assist with a quote!

all the best - Richard Lord
