HTF does it work with insurance work.

Lets say i go out and quote £300 to replace ceiling for mrs jones. £200 for me and £100 for her excess. I then show up pay for mats and do the work. How do i ensure Mrs Jones fills in all paperwork and sends it off properly completed so i get my cheque in the post.

Apart from not doin Ins work how do you set this up to ensure you get paid??

Mrs Jones gets the go ahead from her insurance company after they have accepted your quote.
You do the job mrs jones pays you insurance company pays mrs jones.

Cheers Dave does it always work like this?????

Do you lads charge to quote for insurance work?

the last few insurance jobs i've done have been paid to the customer by the time i finished. So i got paid when i was finished. And i asked them for cash ;)

How i explained it is how i always expect it to be. My rule is always work directly for the home owner.
It is then up to the customer to get the money back from the insurance company.I always leave a typed up invoice with the customer and take a cheque from the customer. And no i never charge anyone for a quotation.

As dave says and if they cant afford to pay to have to work done till the insurance pays out I wait till then

depends on size of job and if theve sent a loss adjuster out.small jobs your contract is with the customer nothing to do with insurance company just invoice customer as normal, its up to the customer to liase with ins comp not you

quite agree with the above ..

we used to do sh.t loads of insurance jobs but the big companies changed to using approved contractors who cover large areas and agree rates for the work...

can't remember the last one we done ourselves as a quote

As martinemj says you don't get much insurance work now, what you do get is offen fraud as insurance companies pay the money direct into the customers bank account. You do the quote they either do the work themselves or get their mates to do it for half the price you quoted.

Yeah, last one I done they even had an off-shoot company ring me to negotiate the price down - or to be precise, would I paint the ceiling as well. I asked the punter if they would like to paint it for the excess I had written in, so it worked out nicely all round ;)
But the insurance game is well and truly stitched up now by them having their own 'approved' contractors doing everything - I'm only 6 miles away from the towns that were badly affected in the Cumbrian floods and didn't get a sniff at one insurance job. Not one! - B*stards. >:(

yea im'e only about 25 mins from tewkesbury --after the floods in 2007---

only did plaster 1 house ---9 months after ---- sub contract to med sized building co..
