is all down to how you put your self out there, if your sat at home moaning you have no work not much chance it will find you, gota get out there and find the work :-)

we have noticed the sites starting to move a bit but there is a glut of plasterers who just do skimming on new builds so theres not the work out there to keep them all going forcing them into the private market. the labour rate per m2 for these types of spreads are really low as well. I also think it depends on where you are in the country. where busy but we do the whole spectrum.

I came back from spain 6-7 months ago as i had nada work... but since coming back to the UK i have been stowed off and have priced up 2.5 m worth for next year so if 10% of it comes off i will be happy... so i havent been hit by the recession here... but i do, do everything i can to get work in... and that means spending most of my free time on the net

Ive been busy but have noticed a drop in the calls,i got work untill end of Jan at the mo,and a few quotes to do in next week also.
No i dont beleive were ouyt the shi t yet by a long long way.
The vat increase in the next week will slow things again. Also people want there houses right for christmas so theres always a rush from nov to dec.
I reckons Jan and feb will be very quite then start to pick up.
But what the f u c k do i know im a plasterer not chancellor..

not being funny mate , but if your only hoping to get 10% of what your pricing and you spend all of your free time "on the net" looking for work maybe you should rethink your prices , that ll save you looking so much!

The truth is ...there is work out there.
But you gotta advertise yourself to get it.
You can sit around waiting for the phone to ring doing nothing, you gotta spend money to make money its that simple.

Hi Melin... I spend time on here when not working... i have plenty on mate just weather has got me knackered, also when you get o price up the amout of work I do then 10% will be great to start off with... at the minimum if i get 20% then that will keep me going all year... also why should i drop my prices???? people will and do pay for tradesmen with 35 years experience and quite happilly... if someone tried to knock my prices down i just say get someone else mate... I go all over the UK and have been all over the world doing my stuff... and the manufacturers reccomend me... not cheap... not expensive... but good at what i do...

Ill second that if we all stuck together and didn't drop prices we wouldn't be in this mess .there's a fella up the road who has writeing on his van that says credit crunch prices he charges 12 per hour and he's loads on but f**k that I'd rather do nothing than work for nowt

Yes i agree we give our very hard earned advice away here for free which i dont mind to be honest as we all had to start somewhere... but it piss*s me off when people complain about what we charge...
People will happilly pay £15.00 - £50.00 per m2 of carpet or wood flooring well i say happilly... they pay for what they get... they could get £3.00 per m2 remnants/roll ends but they end up with what they pay for a poxy piece of cord carpet that will not last 1 month... just like getting a dodgy plasterer who can only skim.... and then have to do it in 3 plus coats... when i leave a job it is flat/straight and level... unless im doing a vaulted ceiling or an eliptical moulding ran over a archway... but thats another story.... and yes i will tell you lot (WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THESE) as im sure most of the older guys here can do it... but then again we charge good money for skill

Sorry mate by your previous posts i assumed you worked for main contractors ,didnt realise you worked in the domestic market, i price jobs for main contractors and if i was only winning 10% of my tenders i would try to remedy this instead of looking for more work to price with a 90% chance of losing them! regards
