hi guys

just had a cash quote for my back bedroom and was just looking for ball park figures to see if im having my pants pulled down here.
the bedroom is 3.7 x3.2 x2.6 high. all lathe and plaster removed from walls and any solid plaster on brick walls removed by myself. 2 stripped studded walls. i external wall which requires insulated boards. and the party wall has a chimney breast with 2 alcoves. also having ceiling reboarded. i heard them mention 16 boards, 2 insulated boards and 6 bags of finish and a light swith box to suit plasterboard.

two days work £670 to fully board the room and plaster up. 2 men.

is this a fair price?

dan

If its two days work for two men, and that price includes materials then thats quite a bit cheaper than I would be, so yes its a fair price!

theres a 4 day basic plastering course near me. was thinking of doin that chris and givin it ago myself but if it goes tits up the missus will go mad and the newborn due in december will be living in a plastering hole.....

they forgot beads though so one of ems going to have to nip back to the merchants to get em.. thats another hour, and prolly a bacon butty... and a tenners worth of beads... but they'll prolly both go, just so one of em doesnt end up looking lokie a dickhead sitting there scratchin his arse, so add another bacon butty...
and the queue will be silly long, the numpys at the till wont have a clue...
then theyll get all the way back and realise they forgot the bloody scrim....
back again, another bacon butty etc..
time theyve done youll have cut their bleedin throat!
workin for nowt tha knows!!! :RpS_laugh:

i could do it for 400 quid plus materials plus deisel plus delivery of said materials plus errr wear and tear on my trowel @ £10 per tenth of a mil errr....
nah its alright mate, long as it turns out nice job, nice square corners, no scrim showin, tidy beads cleaned out sockets/switches wiped up paid and f'cked off...
keep the missus knicker draweer locked though.... :RpS_blink:

err just a thought mate, whereabouts are you? cheap in landahn that is...
if your in peterborough give me a bell... ill knock that out in 2 days on me todd... p'ss... :RpS_thumbup:

he's alright... for a scouser :RpS_laugh:
been on here a long while mate... not been taken to bits yet that i know of and ive been on here since before god!
believe.. if youre sh'te on here... you get taken to bits, chewed up and spat out...

Danny ask yourself this are they everton fans? because I think it's roughly a price of there season ticket!if you got them outof the local boozer then forget it!but they sound like know what there doin.if ther busy theres a good chance there good .like my good self since I joined this forum I've been ran ragged with work so happy days !!!

All up for getting stuck in yourself, but after a 4day course you will spend a third of the quote and you will still cock it up, take it from me.

This is your house mate, the biggest investment you will have why would you want to ruin a whole room for the sake of 6 hundred and odd quid? imagine when u wanna sell up and potential buyers are walking round knocking off thousands because of all the work they will have to factor in the purchase?

No offense mate but this mentality really baffles me. How much did you pay for your TV set or games console that will be obsolete in a couple of years? prob more than your plastering quote.

The choice is yours

3 then...
or 3 sheets or celotex and 3 boards? cant remember price on thermal boards? what works out cheaper?
3 sheets of celotex, 5 lengths of 25x50 tile lath, 3 boards and a bag of concrete screws

or

3 sheets of thermal board (u value equiv to .3) and a couple of bags of 'multi purpose' dabbing?

ye dabbing thermals is always bit risky, plus there always like bananas. can pick them up for 16 quid by us, there the lafarge ones, think 22 or 25mm.

25mm aint much though - thermally I mean, and yeah you gotta make sure there's mechanical fixings too:RpS_thumbup:
