i agree, and have been for a while. really gets my goat when others are dropping rates seemingly open ended. we are ******* tradesmen, with thousands pounds worth of vans, tools, insurance etc. it is only the tradesman themselves that can demand the rates. until then the builders will continue to dominate the rates, and also have that attitude of "well if you dont like it **** off". we should have as much say as they do.

well said.

check this out, i priced 14 houses aprox 600 squares each. 15mm ceiling board, 15mm sound bloc, metal stud and ins, d&d and skim throughout, small mono work. £10.5k each mats and labour. i was told others had come 30k under me. knobs, bet the finish looks like a fkin car crash. i know of outfits that go in at these unrealistic rates and there reputations dwindle due to piss poor labour and finish. then the administrators come in for a bit of humiliation.lol

i dont do the spec mate! but if were fitting to trusses that are 600 centres then 15mm for sure. 15mm on ceilings are the widely used though, even my house (new build persimmon) has 15mm on the lids with joists at 400.

trick is get yourself busy enough to price new work at a higher rate when your stacked out, if you lose the job it dont matter if you win it bonus, then you can feel the market and what you can get then slowly creep your rates up from there onto future jobs.

I get alot of offers from other bigger firms also i have a set rate for them they always try to haggle but I just point out such a firm who is paying it us and they have loads of measure so I aint jumpin ship for a cut - some agree some dont but all these tactis need to be used at the mo I think because we took a big hit and for too long working for nuts, worth a try anyway

you know we could do it as an initiative on this forum, the same for products.

Hey guys nice to see most of us aggre I mean we all seem like we care about what we do and at the end of the day without us what would they do I'm not talking about ripping people off just a couple of pound more a m2 it would mean you could enjoy your work a lot more ,and after all what we do is very specialist it takes years of practice to master it as most of us have
when u look at a house built in blocks it looks like nothing ,but once rendered it looks special it's the first thing a buyer sees as they pull up to view a home it slaps you straight in the face we have a lot of pressure on us to make sure it's right and we should be paid the right price for doing it if we stick together instead of stabbing each other in the back we could provide a much better life style for us and our family's so come on guys lets push these prices up and remember quality is our key keep the work right and charge a bit more
