As titled really what is this, got a customer ring me saying his sister wanted some doing, but ive looked it up and its just showing me easy filler is this the stuff shes on about

Easifill is a quick setting filler and finish for finishing plasterboard. Joint cement is an air drying, fine jointing compound, for use over joint filler and Easifill. You can patch with Easifill. I suggest you find out exactly what she wants, and if she's fit, i'll pop round and do her it for her.

tony i have 2 huge tubs of knuf jointiung compund? is easy fill faster setting then? can i sand down same day? i have a house full of new re wire to do but its all on lining paper so iv bonded out to level but was going to use the jointing stuff 2xs to get a good finish over it al

Easifill is chemical set in 90 mins generally. It still has to be dry to sand though. This time of year it should be dry enough to sand, as long as you don't fill too deep a hole with it. You may find that the joint cement will get lots of tiny air bubbles in it if you apply it over a previously painted surface. That's why Easifill is better for remedials.

i only use it for decoration but i do get them air bubbles yes! but no mixing up and if i hang on to a bag of easyfill for 3-4months its be everywere¬

@Tony have you used the Promix i thought it was alright, only used it for hand applying though

I have. It's ok for straight joints and internals, but lacks guts for doing beads in my opinion. It's very soft too so needs sealing after to harden it off a bit.

I used readymix stuff from USA once made by Sheetrock without a doupt the best ive ever used.

Yeah speedline do the same gear, very easy to sand with 150grit paper, but very soft without sealer on.

It does need more trowelling if on a painted surface (two coat is best anyway)but it sticks like (german word) to a blanket, where as i've known easifill to blow.
Also you can get easi45 which set in 45mins.

joint cement is the final coat in a three coat tape and joint job. easi fill can be used for the same job but on a proper spec for tape and jointing you would normally use joint filler (semi set semi air dry) and two joint cement (air drying) easi fill can be used on smaller jobs to save waiting times between drying coats and alot of people only do two coats btw.

out of interest, when using the joint cement finish, what grade paper do you guys use? as for general decoration work i use a 120 grit but i havenow invested in a drywall sander with hover attachment recomened by TONY M :-) and it comes with 240 black sheets and that is the only grade they do? not used it yet but i fort 240 would take alot of work to rub down with?

Depends on what brand of Joint cement you use. BG Joint cement is quite hard so will require 120 or even 100 grit. Wondertex and Lafarge would probably take 150 grit. Easifill can be done with 120 no problem.

What sander did you get Oasis?

is it the hand sander with mesh sand paper? i've got one and used 120 grit and it just left lines so the finer the better i reckon, but try it out.
i brought a Porter Cable sander with vacuum from the US a few years ago for about £850,the Flex giraffe was just a copy of it but not as powerful (i don't know if the new version is any more powerful or how good the internal tool on it is).
A mate has told me he's come across a few Jointers using this cheap ebay sander Link Removed
and reckons it just as good as mine and takes all Porter Cable/Flex parts.

electric sander are great, without the vacuum connected i used be able to sand over 600m2 then seal it in a day.
i've been using lately with 60grit(seen this too on ebay very cheap whereas i paid over £40 for BG stuff) for taking the high points off artex before skimming.

Yep,a little bit.
it was slightly dusty but i'd like to think more Tony Montana than Casper.
It was on a shopping centre,7m x 45m client walls with all shop fronts open so loads of ventilation.
i did wear a mask but any safety officer worth their salt would've stopped me.
I f**k**g hate sanding even if it is with an electric sander so it all needs doing last minute double fast.
