alrite guys ,, just wondering working with a guy at the moment who never uses joint filler before skimming just skims straight over the joints,, will this not crack in time? if not what is the point of joint filler,,

as long as hes scrimming his joints this is fine,, have you worked with many spreads who do their joints with joint filler first ??, ive never worked with one in 33 years

the job were on is using tapered edge boards for the walls and ceilings, think it was origanly suppose to be taped and jointed,, the site agent wants all joints pre filled with joint filler before skimming,, just wondering what is the point of joint filler.. ive just started skimmimg was a taper up till a while ago,,

Only time i used it is if i was taping. 1st coat of fast set by hand then 2 coats of joint cement usin tapin machines. Better off scrimmin the joints and skimmin with multi. That way theres no sandin involved.

he's probably worried about dips in the board, just fill the joints first with skim , then skim the wall/ceiling as normal. I have seen a few wall that dip in with these blokes who get about a hundred metres out of 1 bag.

If he wants them paper taped with joint filler and then skimmed they will be fine as long as itsdried/set and powdered filler not the pre mixed tubs. If he just wants them filled over scrim with filler then skimmed he is a nob.

I normally scrim them then fill them out with finish first then drop back and lay the set on... never would fill them with joint filler first...

For two coats you don't have to go over them first, but when you do I coat only is good practice to do the joints first and let them set before you apply the coat. I have also never heard or saw a plasterer to fill the joints with filler first:RpS_thumbdn:. Is this some new kind of **** going on site at the mo?

If its pb....scrim..pva, blue grit, pva again, then wba, then pva, eml, blue grit twice and mabye one more pva for suction control:RpS_thumbdn:......
