Hi please can somebody give me some advise ? I am just starting out with this plastering thing and Im going to start by plastering my garage .I will be plastering straight onto the bricks so what I was wondering is do I need to pva the walls first and do I need a cement based plaster and if so is there a certain name or do I need to look at the bags.Thankyou for taking the time to look.
Matt

hello mate, for youre garage walls the easiest way would be dry-line it then
tape and skim,so you would pva walls first. If you want to use backing plaster
just damp down walls with water and use Hardwall then devil float up and as
youre new to plastering you wont be skimming same day so when you come
to skim damp down good with water. Also the only cement based plaster is
thistle-dry coat which u use after damp-proofing or u use sand and cement,
which u could use on youre garage also be cheeper!

Thankyou for you reply .Sorry to be a bit thick about this but when you say dry line does thats means plasterboard ? Im asking that because I diddnt think that you needed to PVA plasterboard. The garge is very cold and we use a tumble dryer in their so the walls do get a bit damp,so with regards to the plaster itself what do you recommend ?
Thanks again
Matt

Yes dry-linning is plasterboard ie dot and dab, u pva the walls before u put
the dry-linning adhesive on the walls.not the plasterboard! Anyway as it gets
a bit damp in there and u dont want to pay out for the aqua plasterboard really
(which is damp resistant really used in bathrooms and kitchens) Go with the
Hard wall plaster

reading between the lines here im guessing, your garage is single skin, so i would recommend a cavity system gypliner or something like that, even stud work in front of the wall then boarded, insulate between the studs and ceiling joists if your going to use it as a dwelling type building

sand cement me old mucker all the way, forget h/wall unless youre fully converting it with rads etc it'll rot otherwise

just out of interest, would this be a project where you will take it all off again and redo to gain experience?
