k rend course

looks like im ganna be booking that course in ireland very soon. but just wondering what is the method of useing k rend? is it like sand and cement of do you just rule off and leave then scratch off next day?
 
In summer I try and have everything on for lunchtime them scratch in afternoon in winter its n
ormaly ok the next day
 
You will be better giving your money to Monkey and going with him for the day, he may be a fat t**t but he is good .
 
think that course in ireland is just watching not hands on ...if its the same course i looked into in belfast? they do one in buckinghamshire, fair bit more but is hands on.
 
mr monkey u must let me no if your ever in my area so i can stand watch take loads of photos to put on my web site with my name on ect
 
Oasis....why you wanna get into rendering mate?? To much hassle mate.
A lot of initial outlay on materials and scaffolding etc not to mention bad weather with loss of earnings and labour needed when you need it.
Spraying is the more profitable but still you gotta outlay BIGi.Skimming is still the most profitable and stress free,which if im honest isd the only reason im still in the game at all.
 
just dont fink i can say im a plasterer till i can render. i fink in my town there is alot of this work to. money to be made!
 
Mate you can make money selling ur ass......... rendering is hard work and unrewarding in my experience.More trouble than its worth.the time you spend going ove prices for this render that render only to get undercut by anohter spread.its so time demanding phoning around costing up etc etc.
Not like like going into a 4x4m room reskim you no what it gonna cost of your head.You can walk away from 3 bed semi render job making less than skimming a h/s landing and even losing money!!!
good luck mate in whatever you decide to do,but all this b*ll***s about not being a spread till you can render is stupid.you gotta do what is right for you and the most profitable.
Rendering is not worth the hassle in my opinion.Plenty on here if there honest will tell you the same!!
 
totally disagree there some of the systems today are very profitable and more interesting and challenging than skimming and in my book if you cannot render or float and set i think you got a cheek calling yourself a plasterer this is my opinion i know tape and jointers who can skim
 
I dont think oasis wants to learn just how to render i think he mainly wants to learn backing and to be honest if you cant float and skim your not really a plasterer and you cant really compete for most jobs your gonna come up against.
 
in the past ive quoted on say k rend a surface spent hours quoting etc etc only to find it s/c rendered 3 weeks later by someone else for half my quotyed price where as if they asked me to quote for s/c i could have been a lot cheaper.I have had so much work go bad over the years,with cracking rusting beads,frost problems,labourers letting me down,rain stop play for weeks on end etc etc.
Also on the domestic side of things customers wont wanna give you money up front unless they now ya personaly not even for materials only.Then if they dont pay (which once hapend to me) it fcks you up.
Also it can be weeks until you get that first stage payment becuse of bad weather or other commitments and youve got £1000 of gear in a customers garage waiting to be spread.
I no what your saying wizard it can be very lucrative with the right systems and good weather,but why would anyone wanna put there business at risk with potential heavy cash flow problems to embark on a rendering crusade in a recession????
 
You can still earn good money doing traditional sand & cement as well as mono or other systems, learn something new and it's another string to your bow. Do the course Oasis then get the hang of skimming and you'll be well on your way. ;)
 
i dont think he's on a crusade the lad just wants to learn and fair play to him he aint got to start big and if you were having problems like beads rusting it means you were using the wrong beads and these days cracking can be minimumlised using mesh fibres and good practice the problem is everyone thinks sand and cement is an old product in terms of building its not and its never used properly hence problems guys like essexandy church know this because they use it the right way you must have been shown wrong
 
Heavy on cash flow!!! Skimmin you should try taking on insulated screeds on gas membrane, now that's what I call material heavy on cash flow, makes render materials seem like small change (sand & cement).
 
Good money to be made in render, couple of tons of sand and few bags of cement, few beads, maybe £130, got yourself maybe £1200-1500 job? If you get the weather right, not very often it rains non-stop all week. Scaffold charge on removal not up front too. I've had some good money outa rendering & I work on my own.
I agree you can lose it on the stuff, bad sand, weather etc.. but it's down to experience too and it's good to learn, that's why we all log on here everyday..... ;D Rite off to work!
 
Good on oasis for trying to better himself, the more you are able to put your hand to the better.

For the record, up here there are painters that do skimmin. It's mostly timber frame up here so all your doin is skimmin so it get's pretty boring. There is a lot more skill involved in rendering and roughcasting and it's the first thing someone cast's their eye on when they arrive on job. Also, they are seeing the finished article whereas paint and filler can hide a multitude of sins.
 
Good luck wih the course the 1 major benefit i find is in the mixing, bags in a drum and whisk away, no need for a mixer getting humped around
