Alright geezers, am looking into getting a bagged render under me belt for a number of reasons! is it worth doing a couple of day course? looking at the gold trowel one..

Im assuming that as a competent plasterer it shouldnt take too long to get to grips with it? obviously at the minute I know very little about bagged renders and dont have the confidence to **** about with stuff I dont know much about! (being why was looking at the course)

Any suggestions welcome!

Cheers!

same as always mate. try and get with someone local and work with them rather than paying to have a go. i'm sure theres someone on here in your area thats going to be doing some soon

gold trowel do a good course two days think its £200/£300
Im off there in the summer for mine as you get a certificate to say you can do it

d*m**o - thats wht I was thinking, they are a k-rend accredited place so recieving the certificate and what not would look good to customers.

Beddy - I dont think youd learn enough working with someone for a few days personally, atleast with the course you come away with a book of all the info and different textures etc/ trowel time would be better with someone admittidly but for theory behind it I dont think it would? maybe wrong though!

**** paying a plasterer. either work for a day rate or for free. they are getting the extra man power so wont be bothered. i personally dont think there is THAT much to k rend. just my opinion for what its worth.

haha well if you get a certificate you must be s**t hot,im still pretty good on a push bike as i did my cycling proficency at 11 yr old.

you cant beat hands on experience,
i did the Krend one in northern ireland and the parex one it gives you a good idea of whats involved but its in a controled enviroment and doesnt test you, i wouldnt have dreamed about tackling a gable end after just doing a course, like anything else takes practice.

and there websites are an excellent font of information

Thing is most people herer machine apply, so it goes on a littl edifferent, if your hand applying its best to do to coats , in my opinion. There s more to it than that though, knowing about meshing,i prefer full meshes, backing coats etc.A course cant teach you it all, neither can working with someone for a week. So, which ever way you go your going to keep learning for a while, just like plastering i suppose.

Thats the thing Kebab, either way its just a stepping stone onto something new, small jobs at a time and work ya way up with it and Im sure itd all work out alright!

machine applying does go on a fair bit differently ill give you that.sod sticking it on by hand, takes the profit out of it.
What i did was to get a lad to work for me full time, and learn off him.

still make it pay if your doing a full house, just maybe not small areas.
machines are they way forward in plastering my friend.

yes there is that,if you have the certificate from k rend you go down as an approved user, but its a lot of tosh really

how many people go on this course per week? how many weeks have they been doing the course? i should imagine there are hundreds of 'approved users' for k rend. i've never been asked if i'm an approved user of anything, except heroin

Never said you would, but you have to start some where i suppose, my 1st experience with Krend was with Simply the best, machine applying.

k rend is something ive never been able to try out too would like to learn it though might look at thre course and try to find someone who does it after to pick up the experience.

So there you have it Boy's, from the horses mouth so to speak,
Thanks to the the guy's at k-rend for clearing that up, shame you can't set up some training days in central England somewhere, sure yo would get a great response

I did think about maybe Weber, but K-rend has always been in me head as to which one I would choose (dont know why, prob first I heard of), would rather go somewhere in UK though!

So that users have a clear picture. Graham Cumberland & Lisa at Krend agreed that we could work in conjunction with each other to deliver longer certified courses at Goldtrowel so that students get a feel for the materials. Jason and Geoff at Krend are fully aware also what we offer and also materials to supply . SO FOR THOSE WISHING TO COMPLETE Serious meterage you are more than welcome to come to us. You will have a Krend Approved Certificate. If you think that a 1 day course suits your needs please go to Krend in Ireland you will really enjoy it. BUT for those wishing to get more meterage done then we offer longer courses. Having used many scrape renders over the years, understanding shortfalls etc.. I like the systems that Krend offer. That's why we do High Quality Courses with sample sets supplied by Krend and also course handouts whether applied by machine or by Hand. You all have opinions and experiences that's what forums are for, which is good practice. All the Best...

Im a bit confused now, Gold trowel says they are working in conjuction with Krend but Krend are saying they work alone in this? or Im reading it all wrong :D

From what I know and when i spoke to them at GoldTrowel last year, GT are approved trainers for krend in the Uk? GT offer a longer course so that more aspects can be covered and more likely problems can be overcome.

Things like walls built on the piss and out of square window reveals etc.

With the course the Krend offer direct, you only get to scratch the surface (from what I gather... please correct me if I am wrong)
