k-rend on brickwork

i`ve got a gable end to price.it`s a price for north devon homes(council).the house was built with a grey colour engineering type brick.i`ll have to keep my price tight to get the job.can i get away with rendering striaght over bricks or will it need a scratch?if i had a choice i`d allways scratch first.

I would use a sbr slurry or rendaid mate just to get a key.

as above hpx and mesh will cost you more but you can guarantee it will be spot on
