Done it a couple of times with no probs but used Parex products. Chopping off the dash was smashing the blocks to pieces so painted Microgobetis on and Monrexed it.

Make sure the dash is clean of algae and dirt then a coat of hpx with or without mesh. Then k rend finish with the usual stress patches.

Always best to come off though only as good as the dashing is ...... Fair doos about the block faces coming off , can still be done though just not the easy option but the better one

Have you ever worked for Westdale in South Yorkshire Rigsby? They have a Base Coat specially made for this job. A lot cheaper too, it's fully compatible with K Rends gear.

Westdale did a Council estate near me. They did it how you describe, a polymer base meshed and pinned with a Salmon Pink K rend dash finish. Selling the idea to customers is hard though.

Weber Rendaid is some pretty impressive stuff .... but would get a bit expensive trying to cover pebble dash!
