Have been "volunteered" (last one in the room!) to assist local sailing club in helping to sort out very poor quality of work in variety of areas by so called builders now off site who extended a beach side Boat Centre. Building is single floor and has been K rendered on southerly and western walls both of which will take the full brunt of SW winter gales which will be packed with salt and, obviously water!
K render was applied to new block work. (properly or otherwise!) but it currently looks sound. Do members of the forum consider that it might be wise given the hostile nature of the environment to "paint" the two flanks as an additional protection and, if yes, with what? Oil base or water base and how many coats?

Views welcome!!

thanks

I do believe that mono should be thicker for exposed elevations of buildings much like the one you describe, usually by using thicker beads, though I'm not quite sure on the extra thickness needed as I haven't had the need to do it on any of my own jobs,a sealant for the render as opposed to a paint may be an option, owls, @Rigsby or some other members will know more.

Parex spec 20mm plus down my end.westcountry

Yep 20mm thickness but 2 coats of paraguard wet,on wet.
The paraguard should last as long as the render lasts.

Many thanks for the inputs especially as we feeling our way in the dark. we do not have a clue as to the thickness but seems that the way ahead may be to apply a sealant. Render has been on (or not!) for around six weeks would appreciate advise whether still appropriate to apply a sealant and if yes any advice on which "brand"? Next challenge for us to sort out quality of foundations but that not for this forum!! again many thanks
