So, got a small slc screed job on next week and customer very picky so, I thought I'd invest in a spiked roller to achieve that uniform colour without any trowel marks.....unfortunately, I visited the refina site.....now £110 worse off, I only wanted a £12 roller!

Ive bought a few things including a 14 inch plazzi, thing is it's got a sponge backed blade? I've seen a couple of guys using these and don't remember seeing a sponged blade? Any ideas?

the spike roller will give you a beautiful finish mate, takes all the air bubbles out... roll it up then back the same way.. by the way use a water based leveller as opposed to a latex based one, way better...

The 12" and 14" are a harder plastic with no foam on the back.
16" and bigger all have foam pads on the back and are a softer plastic.
All of them are shite.

naa i prefer latex based one find the water based one takes ages to dry so you can walk on it

Looks like all have the sponge now....at least it says so on the description? I had to by one, been living off a 13 and 14 inch M/T for years....gotta get down with the kids at some point!

ahhh anywater based ones ive used have been shite i prefer the latex ones no measuring out or anything just one bottle of milk to one bag bash it in pour it aaaaat

lol.. try the german brands pal, way superior to latex, most of Europe use water based. only us use latex..

My refina order arrived today..... The 14 inch plazzi does have the sponge back and has an uber soft blade, like really soft! I really can't see that surviving its first encounter with a corner bead! Got a small ceiling to do this week, might try it out on that.....

The quality of this plazzi does not look great, edges of the blade are very burred, certainly not a 'straight out of the box' tool, will have to introduce it to a little wet n dry before it meets it's first set..

Use a fine sanding block on the first 10mm of the blade ... wet and dry ... after a few days use you'll notice the edges wear nicely eventually looking like a trowel .... they do last - my last was over 3 months - I use the non sponge backed blades though so there a bit stiffer

Keep the face closed if your jumping on wet plaster after a flatten with a s/s trowel .... great bit of kit imo if used right ... 2 passes with a plazi after you've flattened and its set done .... also great for patch :RpS_thumbup:

Job done. Used the refina 15 inch roller, what a cracking tool, a great looking finish. Ended up buying the wickes water based slc and primer, worked very well considering some poor reviews.

Not got the plazzi out yet tho......

yeh, water based is the way to go, and you get a beautiful finish with the roller hey... nice one mate..
