Hi all,

Having a nightmare with this stuff over new render. doesnt seem to want to trowell up.

Can someone give me in laymens terms the protocal for using it.

I thought it would be the same as BG but not at all.

Im in Oz by the way and this is the first time ive used Knauf, i used wickes and that was made by them i thought but this is shiteee

Any help would be great

Lee

lee its good gear but different to multi, takes ages to go off.

on the back of the bag used to be instructions how to use it ... something like lay up .... flatten ........ 2nd coat ....... flatten ........ leave for 45 mins ........ dry trowel ....... leave for 30 mins wet trowel.

something like that anyway.

Lay it up nice and flat and dont play with it :)

cheers for the reply mate, the instructions are in german as the fella imported direct. I was dead excited about doing some skimming over here but had a nightmare day. Back to it tomorrow, lol. got another 20 bags to use so best get into it.

Thanks again

go to knauf web site it is all on there if you have problem I think I still have there white book.

On render that has been left to cure for a while it will be a nightmare to trowel up and it will be a last minute thing, so throw on one coat, then flatten and leave till it really picks up,(you could sponge float at his point if you wish) then trowel with water (if not sponge floated) leave as long as you dare then trowel up , then last minute polish, I try to avoid sponge floating if poss, but thats just cos i'm lazy and don't like the mess.

if your skimming onto render that's still a bit green then you can semi finish it before it's set (due to some suction) then final trowel as it's going off

well, 2nd day didnt go any better. This stuff is a pain in the arse to even mix. Im thinking its been on the boat to long getting here and got damp or something.

I mix it and mix it and mix it and still has dry lumps running through it.

I stick on 1st coat and flatten as best as i can as its trying to pull across the render.
Then leave and would love to only do one coat but the 1st is shite so mix up another, stick that on and still bits running through it.

Wait for it to go and it does not want to cooperate, some of the worst plastering i have ever done.

As im in Aussie (sydney )the builder aint too sure on what its supposed to be like but when you shine a light down its terrible, will all need sanding.

I WISH I COULD NIP TO WICKES AND PICK UP SOME BRITISH GYPSUM.

Still got 200mts to do and dreading it, what a palava

Even tried a sponge on it and it didnt like that either.

Bin it !!!

Try sieving it through some mesh, is it mainly the dry bits or does it feel chewy or draggy, have you got you're skimming trowel ?

yeah it feels draggy and a bit gluey i suppose. The funny thing is there is no lumps in the bags, i have had me hands in there and nout. I cant work it out, i have mixed it really wet to see if its any better, tried on low and high gears, 2 different whisks.

The production date was december 20th 10, but the rep reckons its good for 8-12 months.

Another fella here has used it on some plasterboard and said it finished ok but was bitty in the mix.

Am i right in saying Wickes multi is similar to Knauf?? I used that back home and liked it but completly diff to this gear.

I have my skimming trowell with me, its travelled new zealand and now here.

Any other idea??

People are coming to know about skimming out here now so we are tryin to get some products to do the business, difficult when your fekking miles away.

Here's a long-shot for ya.........Add a good handfull of washed sand to each mix (not too sharp!) It might just make it more workable:RpS_thumbup:
If it makes it worse, do as Warrior suggests and dump it:RpS_mad:

sacked the gear off, for $35 a bag youn would have hoped it would work. Just had a quote for bags of BG multi finish for $40 per bag plus shipping. lol

Sounds like it may have got damp at some stage,if the render has dried out it may help to PVA it

yeah, pva'd it. the gear is knackered. 6 months since production and i reckon its been damp and dried out or sumin.

Lucius you used proyalbi fino??? is this like multi if you haev, you can use over render etc??

and have you come across Ibertop by Saint gobain??

Hi mate ime sure weve been over this before but anyway, dont bother with Ibertop it is for going over textured paint, very popular in Spain but now out of fashion bit like Artex, havent actualy used it but used similar from another company and its s**t.Fino is OK but expensive and more of a filler used on putting right Fcuked up machine plastering and quite soft if used as a skim. If you are going to use Spanish plaster just use projection and put it on a bit thicker and treat like MP75 other than that Placo finish which is a board finish but is the nearest you will get to multi and its alright. THere are also Perlinor and Perlita finishes in Spain which are OK but not sure who makes them but i am out there next week so can let you know if you want

ha, well ive been skimming rendered walls with ibertop for the past 2 days. No wonder its a pain in the arse. getting a better finish than was with the knauf.

the fekking suppliers here have no idea what goes on what.

ta mate your much more help than they are

With the stuff i used, probably Ibertop just rebagged i got best results with sponge float and plastic trowel advice taken from a Spanish spread.
