Hi everyone i went to price up 54 meters square of rendering and the builder has used a wallboard i have never seen before called heraklith boards? they seem to be cement and wood based boards.
Im not sure what sort of surface prep is even required for this kind of background surface?
has anyone worked on this type of board and what materials would you suggest to use on it.
thanks in advance for any help you can give me

cheers gibbo just to clarify are you saying fix the mesh directly to the base board first or a thin coat of krend and trowel the mesh into it? the house is something special and i need to get it right this guy could keep me in work for the next three years
Thanks again:RpS_biggrin:

Gibbo is talkin about an adhesive base coat, such as mate', sm700, or hp12 etc and bed mesh in that then apply the decorative finish you want

I've done a mono job recently on fibralite board and that was wood and cement compressed, I used HPX and mesh then monocouche, came up nice and haven't heard of any problems with it.

This :rolleyes)

it is a render board but not for "any old render", the boards are designed for thin coat polymerics, you need the base to be a prep coat so comb it with the scratcher as nornmal scratch coat, using the mono over that may need consideration also, weber and parex have one for this system, parex call it monorex EHI not sure what weber call theres

its weber lac with the mesh embeded

The Weber system is question if the weber.rend MT system, and is designed for calcium silicate panel, I know Weber have endorsed their system over Knauf Exterior aqua panel and Blue Clad, so a call to Heraklith technical would be in order as Spunky sugests.

I have read that a poly mesh renforced St Astier mono has been applied to this board, but could not qualify that either St Astier or Heraklith have endorsed this procedure.

only way i know mate is what i said before best way is to MAITE/MESH scratch coat, then monorex EHI over that when dry and weber have an equal system not sure if its the standard mono (PRAL) or a different spec mono for this board system like Parex have

Not after the name of the weber base mate only the mono render top coat, parex have a version of mono designed for this board system called EHI different to the standard monorex for masonry backgrounds, I am assuming weber have a graded mono for their board system unless thay just use pral m or whatever standard gear,

TBH this system is a little overkill for me when you can just finish the job with a coloured acrylic if the base is left smooth, going back with monocouch is a heafty build up for a carrier system but I suppose some people only want a mono finish no matter what the background

thats what i thought mate if your going over boards surley just thin coat system with some sort of acrylic finish it doesent have to be mono

they seem to have a few specs for this system, they must just want the mono finish? beats me

Or it could be down to the suplier pushing the spec to suit their own needs, it may be better for them to shift more mono than bucket coat, it is certainly more expensive to top with mono than texture
